Bio

Born in 1991. Dex is the son of Nottingham Musician and Music Teacher Elaine Chapman. Dex studied at Redhill Performing Arts School and excelled in his musical ability as a first study drummer, guitarist and music technician.

At just 16 years of age, and with a high level of academic results, Dex took the unusual step of auditioning to be accepted early onto a Music Performance and Sonic Arts BA(Hons) DEGREE course in Nottingham. At just 17 years old he began this course and uses his teaching to fund his studies.

Dex is a self taught and highly dedicated drummer and has always strived to be at the forefront of new music technology and education. Whilst being accredited for his high musicianship and technical ability, Dex has provided a strong backbeat for a number of bands in and around the Nottingham area, playing a huge range of genres from Rock, Pop and Metal, to styles such as Jazz, Swing, Funk and Reggae.

Dex has also been known for being very experimental and versatile in his playing, most recently by using both a fusion of acoustic and electronic drums and equipment to bend the normal role of a drummer to become much more versatile within his playing. With a strict practice routine, his strong passion for music and a yearning to keep learning, Dex continually aims to grow as a musician so he can inspire, educate and equip students to follow their own goals in music, and provide bands and artists with the up-most in technical ability, musicality and professionalism.

Dex currently holds music qualifications in Music Technology, ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory and Rock School grade 8 Drumming which he passed with DISTINCTION.
